In most situations, people and wildlife can coexist. The key is to respect the wildness of wildlife. “Wildlife” is just that—wild.
Most dangerous and potentially harmful encounters occur because people fail to leave the animals alone. Wildlife should not be harassed, captured or domesticated.

In general, it is illegal to own wildlife in Colorado. You just cannot remove a wild animal from the woods and take it home. As a public resource, wildlife belongs to the state of Colorado, to all citizens.

What to do about squirrels?
Squirrels are generally not destructive and play in important role in our ecosystem.
Fox squirrels favor cottonwood trees, wetlands and mature forests. They forage on the ground burying their main food of nuts, pine seeds, fungi, buds, berries and insects.
